Default 3rd gen overheating

Hey guys. I have a '91 prelude 2.0si with a b21a1 in it that is having an overheating issue. My mechanic says it might be the head gasket, but I'm not entirely sure. There's a new ivac sensor, and a new oem radiator.

At idle, it idles rough, surging for a little while, and calming down for a while. Then it'll do it again. When the car is over heated, the lower radiator hose isn't getting pressurized or getting warm, but the top is, and also the cooling fans aren't turning on. When the car is shut off, only one of the 2 fans turns on during the cool-down cycle, but both the fans turn on is the A/C switch is pressed wile in accessory mode, of if the car is on. I've also noticed that after driving it, there's coolant all over the place from the overflow tank, overflowing. Any insight into this issue, would be awesome.

Thanks!

-Adam

if the upper hose is hot but the lower isnt then i would change the thermostat. be sure to bleed the system properly afterwards.

To add to that you want to replace your radiator cap, that is the most common cause of overheating after you have changed out the radiator.

Last thing to check is the water pump, but normally you would be leaking from the timing side if it broke(not always the case).
