Can I drive with a ripped transmission mount?

My 2002 S2000 started acting weird, making some grinding noises when I would start moving. I parked it somewhere on the side of the street and managed to climb underneath it to see what was up. The transmission mount was completely shredded.

Does anybody know if it is possible to drive home about 12 miles with this thing ripped? I don't have enough of an understanding of how the mounts work to figure this out.
Is the grinding noise from the fact that the transmission is supported on metal instead of the rubber mount...or is it something more serious, such as a propeller shaft misalignment?
I know the simple answer is "just tow it", but I'm in a position (into which I was put partially because of this car) where if I do that I would have to ask my wife not to eat for two weeks (I'm not worried about myself). It's a long story, but the point is I REALLY don't want to tow it unless I absolutely have to.

I would just drive it very carefully, not to put any unnecessary stress on the drivetrain. It's not going to fall out from under the car, just very slow and carefully.
