The filter type won't matter if you drive through a deep puddle of water... just get the hydro-shield and avoid large puddles

I have had a CAI for years with no problems. My brother had one for half a year and hydrolocked the engine on his SVT Focus. Luckily he got it replaced by his insurance company and they put a new engine in it for the low price of his deposit... $500... Ha ha. Bought bought the car for like $4500 because it had high mileage and now it has a new engine.

don't drive threw puddles clutching it really isn't gonna help much its still sucking in air at idle ive driven thru torrential downpours before and never had an issue, just remember you have a cai and can not go thru standing water... ever..

^Like 2-8 times less air than while engaged.

Of course try avoiding them first. :p

better to have your engine @ idle than to have it revving @ at 3-4rpm.

just avoid submerging the filter in large puddles. ive had the injen for a while and never had a problem with it.

i think the hydrolock is exaggerated tbh. just dont submerge the filter, simple as that. A little sprinkle on the filter aint gonna do nothing to the engine.

With hydroshield you should be safe. I've had my Injen CAI with original oiled filter w/o hydroshield for nearly 2 years and all is fine. However its due for a change by now so I'll get teh Vibrant open funnel dry filter and HS.

Hydroshield wont do much if its submerged in water. I had a hydro shield on mine and I learned the hard way. Got pics to prove it. Just avoid puddles at all cost.

This. Ive been running a CAI on various cars for a little more than 11 years and have NEVER had a hydro lock problem. The problem is the result of poor decision making on the part of the driver.

I've hyrdolocked.. it's not fun. I was trying to save myself, but apparantly forgot that roads are turtlebacked and the water was deeper on the side. I had hydroshield as well, like they've said.. it won't help if you're submerged or close to it

i almost hydrococked a few months ago while it was pouring down real bad. i was going down a on ramp and i heard swooooosh and my wheel got stiff, engine light on, belt was squeeking, so pulled over and noticed the car was still trying to idle at 600 rpm so i shut it off and let it sit for 5-10mins. i started back and imediately noticed the stumbling so i reved up to 1500 and slowly to 3k and held it there. it cleaned out and felt better, i had steaming in the front and back.
