Default Freshly built motor smoking

Ok I just had my motor put together I have a ls with cp pistons wit brand new cp rings eagle ring all gaskets were replaced and I also have crower valvettain with 404 cams today I l started up my far for the first time . Was having trouble keeping the car running cuz I ran into a problem with the distributor but now that's fixed. So I start the car put a basemap on it let it idle to it's at normal temp. Shut it off then I started it here and there for a couple of minutes . Everytime it was running it was smoking like crazy . So I took it for a ride drove it on the street downshifting engine breaking . Then I jumped on the highway did the same thing (letting it rev down ) when I go back home it was still smoking but not as bad is this normal I'm gna do an oil change in the morning hopefully this in normal cuz the guy at the machine told me it's gna smoke I just got to break it in.. Also my a/f reads perfect wen I'm driving so it's not fuel I'm burning it's defly oil

How many miles are actually are on it?

How are you "breaking it in"?

What did you have the gap set at? Its possible the gap is too loose, also the rings may not have been clocked right. Did you have valve seals and guides replaced when you had it rebuilt?

What color is the smoke? I would suggest a compression test too.

Just cuz the machine shop assembled it, doesnt mean they assembled it correctly.

Before you jump to conclusions and do that though... if it does stop smoking go ahead and do a compression test or even better yet do a leakdown. If that fails then re-ring it

It doesnt take a lot of miles for this stuff to burn off...

jussayin'.

Why do you feel it necessary to throw it out there that you've talked to so and so and then list their credentials?

you've jumped the gun, had a puff of smoke and jumped ionline asking what could casuse it. When given tips, you just reply with "oh i bought that new", "mr. soso knows what he's doing", this that or the other.

Here, I googled this. Its gonna help you figure out proper engine break in procedure. You say the engine has what, 5 miles on it? Why are you jumping te gun? Endyns way list procedures for the first 1000 miles. Thats 995 more than you have.

Do a compression/leak down test. then make your assumption.

Then why are you getting bum hurt??
You evidently have no idea what your talking about. No one is saying the machine shop fukced up your engine, we are saying YOU did. Setting the rings is done during break-in and you evidently have no idea how to break in a engine. Keep driving it, maybe you'll get lucky, but if not you have NO CHOICE but to dissassemble it and re-hone the cylinders and put new rings.

what made you think that running home and posting this on honda-tech would help you out more than
calling your buddy up and having him come show you how to properly break-in your engine?
I don't get why so many of you guys do this its like every time someone trys to be a pro and do **** like they know what they are doing then when they **** somethin up its like a light bulb turns on sayin "OH MAN I gotta get home and ask the guys on honda-tech". HONDA-TECH IS NOT A FREE AUTOMOTIVE CLASS PEOPLE. Go to school if you want to learn the proper way to do ****.

Hopefully the smoke stops for you if not congrats on your new chimney on wheels.

hey noob,
clearly, you are here seeking for help but seems like you disagree with everyone's saying so if your machine shop does such a good job why don't you just bring it back to him and ask?
starting a pointless thread calling for help but you dont' wanna listen and thinks you know all that.. just go cry to your mechanic and see what he says about it.

follow this link and make sure you don't put synthetic in it for the first 1000 miles

if the engine was assembled right and you do the above you'll be fine.

if there is one measurement i'm curious about it's where piston to wall was set
