Prepping Rota Gt3s???
Ok so I have a set of Rota Gt3s that I am planning on painting withing the next week or so. Ive heard many different things when it comes to prepping the wheels for paint. I need some input on what the best way is to prep these. What grit sandpaper? Scuffpad? Ive heard that the way rotas are cut when they are made make it a pain inn the a** to prep them because of the machined grooves. I heard that sanding too much could shave more metal off than planned and throw them off balance. Also I have somebody that does sandblasting, baking soda and glass bead blasting. Would these be considerate. Let me know you input. Thanks
pictures of the wheels? It all depends what shape they are in. You would have to do some pretty excessive sanding to throw them off. At work lots of Times I take 400 on my Orbital sander and red scuff pad the edges..That is only if the are in good shape
they are actually in good shape. just a few spots like around the valve stem and stuff that you can tell the clear is fading and bubbling/chipping a tad bit. Nothing major at all
I would recommend bead/sand blasting if you want to spend the cash. I have a set of rotas and i had them sand blasted and powder coated and they came out perfect. None of the machined grooves showed up
thanks. actually got a deal. my step dad knows a guy that does sand, corncob, baking soda, bead, etc. blasting. Getting them done for free. Cant beat that. He said he will just use fine sand and bead blast the lips in a cabinet to smooth everything out. Should be done tomorrow so im pretty stoked to see the outcome.
