JDM Final Drive Problems???
I have a 97 ITR with a JDM final drive and GSR 5th installed in my R. I also have a relatively new Clutchmasters Stage III clutch as well with a comptech Alumi flywheel.
For some reason, my clutch engagement is very low, lower than the engagement on my previous R with stock clutch and comptech Alumi flywheel.
Have any of you ever had this problem before? It just seems strange that the clutch engages really low and the only real difference that I can think of to cause it is a faulty Clutchmasters clutch or the JDM final drive.
Any input from you guys? If you installed the JDM final drive, did your clutch play change at all? I had the entire tranny taken apart and the clutch and flywheel were inspected and all parts looked to be OK. However when put back together, the same problem exists. Also, now it seems that my clutch is slipping which is the other possible problem, but the clutch 'looks' like it is in good condition.
Any input or suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks,

The final drive has nothing to do with clutch engagement.
Does the clutch still engage properly? Diffferent clutches/pp feel different. Free play can be adjusted at the pedal and I would bleed as well.

Hi Guys,
Yes, the clutch was bled. I rebuilt my motor and everything was apart. The clutch was bled and the mechanics said that all the clutch parts looked fine. The clutch only has about 3 or 4K on it.
I am thinking it may be a prob with the master cylinder....
Thanks for the input so far....

if you look in the manual it describes adjusting the pedal rods for engagement and floor distance . . . Section 12-2 if I recall correctly.
Thanks for the info Asahi,
I will try that. It's possible that the low engagement point is causing my clutch to slip much like riding the clutch while driving.
There is an air gap that needs to exist between the throwout bearing and the pressure plate according to a tech at clutchmasters. I may try to backoff the adjustment all the way on the pedal under the dash and see if that helps at all.

What documentation do you have to back your claim?
its the net and people repeat what they "hear" all the time
comptech has no tranny problems that I've heard of.

I'd still like to hear why he thinks a flywheel will give you tranny problems.
So I checked the clutch pedal clearances using the manual section 12-3 I believe. I also had a stock 00 R to use as a basis, and everything looks like it is ok.
I have no idea what is the problem, but now my synchros are going bad...
Not good. I have to get the 4th to 5th replaced for sure. Anyone know how much it is to replace syncros?
With the R... it's more power, more problems...
