Will all of these components fit on my y8 and are these kits even a good idea?!

I have a 2000 EX stock y8 that needs a new timing belt...

This seems like a good situation considering I'm painting a spare valve cover I have wrinkle red and figured I'd change the gasket for that since I'm doing my timing belt anyways...water pump is a must...and the other belts...well **** it might as well.

All parts are either Genuine Honda, or OEA, OEM (made by the manufacturer that Honda uses ie.. Bando, Koyo, GMB, NPW, ASCO

Well i've never heard of that website so idk if its legit. But no that wont fit your car. The timing belt between the Z6 and the Y8 is different (atleast I'm pretty sure they are). If it fit your model perfectly I'm sure that it would have your model listed.

 

The timing belt WILL fit for sure...

I just don't know about pretty much everything else...

The z6 valve cover fits on a y8 so the valve cover gasket, spark plug tube seals should fit as well...I'm assuming?

I'm not sure about that kit man. Unless its OEM i wouldnt get it. My whole motor is basically non-OEM and after about 16k miles I am going to have to change my timing belt, I already had to change my PS & AC belt, and they are both Dayco. My new AC belt ripped again, and its only like 4 months later. Fel-Pro makes good gaskets though, I have fel-pro gaskets all around my motor and no problems with them, and this is on a boosted setup. The Y8 and Z6 valve covers are the same design, so all the parts from those are interchangeable. I have a Y8 valve cover on a Z6 head, on a Y8 block, with a Y8 timing cover setup and a Y8 timing belt. I think the z6 timing belt will work, but it would be best to just get a Y8 one.
That kit is also really cheap for all that stuff, so I wouldn't be to confident with the quality. Considering that water pump + timing belt is almost $120.

 

Ok thanks man, I'll be pricing it all up I'm trying to get this all done right after the 1st. I'll probably pull the IM and throttle body and clean those out too...

 

In the link it says they use OEM Honda or parts that OEM Honda uses, it looks like a good kit.But does it fit your engine? Call them and ask

 

Not a bad price IF the stuff is really OEM, but seems iffy. I used AC Delco stuff (timing belt kit & waterpump - about same price w/ employee discout thru dealership) in mine and have 20,000+ on it all with no issues so far.

 

I bought a Gates kit from Amazon, and it fit and works well. Timing belt, cam and crank seals, water pump, and tensioner.

Not OEM, but it was much cheeper!

Z6 and Y8 water pumps are different, belts have the same number of teeth but different part numbers. Best way to do a timing belt is buy an OEM pump and gates belt since gates makes timing belts for honda anyway.

 

You beat me to it about the water pump/pulleys being different on the Y8 vs. Z6. I don't have one of each belt here to compare, but teeth count might be the same, but I couldn't say if the belts are the same width too.

 

Just get OEM honda parts/belts and call it a day, they are good quality and perfect fit, why stress about aftermarket, OEM is a forsure thing, thats all i ever use on my car, u pay for what you get...

 

Seems to be the way to go...It just said they use OEM "or equivalent" parts so I was wondering if for some crazy reason anybody else had ordered that kit and had good results...it was worth a try asking...thousands of members on HT I figured maybe somebody had gotten it...but it's all good...I'd rather not chance it...especially on parts like those...pretty essential parts you don't want to fail.

 

I have yet to see an aftermarket waterpump that was any good at all, the last time I tried one it lasted about 50,000kms (30,000 miles) an OEM pump will last at least 120,000kms most of the time.

 

Thanks alot everybody for all the input...this is my first honda...there's far more aftermarket parts than I'm used to in the mitsu world...but it seems this is rarely ever the way to go.........especially after researching LCAs...in a small amount of time I'm seen the worst write-ups on aftermarket LCAs even from brands that seemed to be pretty reputable...

 

Yeah stick with Honda. I learned that when my rmd autozone alternator started squealing a couple months after i got it.

 

RMD...fun...Just replaced the tranny in my friends girlfriends neon...pulled out the torque converter and found out it was RMD the whole time...joy...and I had an autozone RMD alt go out on my lancer...twice in a row.
