I recently purchased a 1993 Honda Civic Del Sol with the 1.5 SOHC Engine with 201xxx. Good condition over all. All stock. One major problem I knew about when I bought it is needed a Half Shaft(successfully done) and Burning oil. She has a new head it appears and has reamnence of coolant splashing the hood. I am assuming this is why there is a new head. She is fouling the plugs and is burning a quart of oil every 100 miles and is smoking perfucely(fills an intersection). There is no coolant in the oil, no oil in the coolant, and has a new head. I only know what have have figured out by myself as I bought it from a lot and you could only trust the guys as far as you could see them. Please Help!! I believe everything points to the rings and That's what she needs along with some Love. For more info Just ask. I bought it for MPG's....And cuz its a Honda and FUN!!! But I cant afford 4$ in oil every 3 to 4 days.

don't even bother with just doing rings, at least swap in a D16Z6. Overall cheaper, unless you go "redneck" and just put in rings. Sounds like the engines been through hell anyways no sense in trying to save it. Just swap it, you'll be a lot happier in the long run.

 

Okay well since the head is new I figured I'd assess the situation once I got In there and It's Just a beater so it the walls where scraped then i was going to replace them. That means only thing that is original is pistons and rods and the crank. So Now that I think I guess you 'd call it RedNeck but Do you think that its the Rings? Provided the walls are good and a new head?

 

could be rings valve seals or both. try doing a compression test.

 

I am working on getting a compression tester today so hopefully I'll know. But everything points to rings. I'll let you know and we'll go from there. Thank you for everything so far guys.
