99 gsr clutch problem...??
so just installed new clutch/pressure plate and throwout bearing...(did this many times before)...put everything back together and when i start the car press the clutch it doesnt want to go into gear, but if i let it out about an inch or so it will go in fine.It is drivable and the clutch bits really good just i have that problem of overstepping the clutch then it wont go into gear.so the next day i dropped the trans again to check the throwout bearing installed anotherone, and still the same thing.so it will only go into gear when the clutch is half way then releases really high. i bleed the clutch and it has a new clutch slave, and no leaks from the master..i thoght that it has to be the presure plate or something.any help?? thanks
If the release fork moved too far when the clutch is depressed, it could possibly push the clutch spring arms into the center of the clutch. This could engage the clutch until you backed off the pedal a bit. This might also happen if the throwout bearing or pressure plate was sticking out too far for some reason. There would be obvious wear on center of the disk.
thanks...i just ordered another clutch, so when i change it out again hopefully i will see the problem and itll be all fixed. i think i just got a shitty pressure plate..idk thats all i can think it could be cause i changed the throwout bearing already and still the same.
i know you said you've done several clutch jobs before but, did you:
1. install new flywheel bearing then torque the flywheel mounting bolts in a crisscross pattern in several steps to prevent warping
2. grease the splines on the clutch disc and then install using a clutch alignment tool
3. torque the mounting bolts of the pressure plate in a crisscross pattern in several steps to prevent warping
4. check the release bearing for play and that it slides smoothly on the transmission shaft and the release fork contact areas are greased and slides back and forth smoothly as well.
