Mild build Turbo D16Y7 or Mild Build Y7/Z6 Vtec Head?
Before I begin, I would like to state that I am not asking this question in means of not being able to make up my mind, but in search of information and tips to know which build would be a lot more beneficial in means of daily driving but still being able to have fun and maybe smash on stock LS'.
Mild Build Turbo D16Y7 or Mild Build Y7/Z6 ?
From what I heard, people build and turbo a complete Y7 because the Y7 head breaths really well, and that some people have achieved 200+whp with a stock head.
But at the same time I've heard people being able to achieve the same whp, but ended up blowing their Y7 bottom because it couldn't handle the high RPMs of the Z6 head, but some still were able to achieve the power whilst making it safe enough to run the motor hard.
So which build would be more beneficial?
If it helps, I'm putting this build in an '88 EF Sedan which means I'll be sticking with the long geared, D15B2 cable tranny.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

i wanna kno the same thing man......i got the 96 dx nd i want as much whp as possible but i still want to be able to drive my car around on a daily basis
Get that Vtac. i have a d6y7/ Z6 head mini me its great running a T25 on it. i think the HP would be alot less without the VTEC. it really helps air flow with the turbo
i havent run into bearing problems yet. My advice is to port the oil pump and shim it. if that is your concern it will boost oil psi. I just ported a y8 oil pump it was pretty easy. theres sopme DIY out there
whatever u do dont use the y7 intake mani lol
