I have a 98 spec type r short block.

does not have any spun bearings but I want to freshen up the bottom end

I have a brand new oem type r oil pump and im going to use acl bearings but what about rings? do I have to use oem? can i get them from machin shops or get them off ebay?

i dont need to be ragged on just looking for some solid anwsers thanks

 

I know most shops will give a discount if you order parts from them and have them install for you. Shop around.

 

I plan on doing the assembly myself other than the hone and crank micro polish.

thrust bearings were outta spec.

im worried about getting rings and having to file them down instead of getting within spec right out of the box

 

Just get oem bearings and rings, they're designed to fit without all the hassle and worry and are probably worth the few bucks more in price.

 

Alot of people will probably disagree with me, but stay away from Hastings rings, used them for my rebuild and sealed like crap, did proper break in procedure and everything.

 

interesting, I have a brand new set in my garage that are 82.5mm rings never used the pistons thou.

what do oem rings run for?

 

I think oem rings go for $100-$150 depending where you buy them from, I know alot of people will swear by Hastings, but after my experience I will never use them again, nothing beats oem.
