Mfactory and general clutch-type LSD questions
-What is the relationship between engine torque and static % lockup? As far as I understand any clutch diff will lock 100% (of the static setting?) when fully loaded. Is the static % lockup just the max distribution between the wheels?
-How much do ramp angle and preload affect initial lockup?
-Is the preload the same for all applications? What is it (I'm interested in H22's spec)?
-Is the plate size the same in all applications?
-How much do ramp angle and % lockup affect abruptness of lock/unlock action in low grip situations like snow and gravel?
-What's the difference between tuning with diff components versus friction modifier? Does friction modifier affect ultimate % lockup or other areas of operation too?
-Why are there 9 plates (odd number) in the MF diff? Is the lockup the same between L/R?
-Kaaz, Cusco and others say not to use synthetic oils with their diff's, presumably because they create better a film (which negatively affects diff operation?). Why does MF recommend synthetic?

got some answers but not all, just ordered one for my rally car ill keep you posted, got a 1.5 way plate lsd, comes pre set from factory at 60% but you can make adjustments by change plates and cams. once 60% inerta is reached it locks both, i am waiting to see if is going to be violent or not. from reviews i have seen they seem to be well made, "no shiming issues that some other cheap lsd have" guy at m factory said it uses same size plates as kazza and cusco. the fliud m factory recomend for there lsd is torco fluid gl6 which is fully synthetic the gl5 is semi syn but hey if you were selling the oil wouldn't you suggest it. the issues it honda transmission fluid, its not your normal 75w90 gear oil, its more like 1ow40.
if your running on lose surface plate lsd is the only way to go. fricton mods won't work same as helical because they need hydrulic pressure or some form of load on the lsd to work. when you on gravel or snow or even in the air ( its rally racing) the is no load and there for power is not suppled to both drive shafts evenly. in the event of no load the helical turns to an open diff, being useless.

Im happy to see this post. My wife currently rallycrosses an EG Civic and is working her way up to stage rally as experience and budget for car prep allow. We have an ITR trans w/ Kaaz LSD but unfortunately s**t happens and we broke the LSD at the last event.
Havent removed the trans and split the case yet, so I dont know details.
Looking to replace with another Kaaz or MFactory metal plate.
Im clueless to proper setting for a rally application (or any application for that matter). Hopefully this post will educate me!
The Kaaz unit was absolutley great in low grip surfaces (dirt, mud, snow, gravel) but on pavement is was like an on/off switch.

dosn't kaaz have a life time warrenty?
Kazz quoted me $1400 cdn
m factory $800 cdn
got a nice set of short 3,4,5 gears and all came to $1400 cdn
so i am thinking deal.
more info on differential, i got the broucher, they have tension springs keeping load so it take very little to engage, so low angle and and minimal engine power used to engage. fully adjustable from 60% to % 100 when ordered,
i know h series has more tq then b series but it all depends if you using h trans or an h2b.
biggest question what are you using it for racing or road?
all racers i talk to swear by plate lsds

You won't get lifetime warranty on any clutch diff.
Who did you get the Mfactory clutch diff for 800 cdn from?
We don't know how much preload there is. I'm using a H22 trans, 90% street.
Could someone give a definitive explanation on static % lockup, perhaps a link? Google failed me on this.
Atmosfear, I believe the Kaaz is setup default to 100% lock. That might explain the on/off action.
I'm going to try Torco MTF to start with. It's non-syn and recommended by MF, so nothing to lose.

sorry my bad 899.00, right from m factory cdn $ is pretty much on par
i thought you got life time warrenty against manufacture defect.
one other thing don't know if it matters they use australia steel
and made in good old china.
the static thing beyond me,
