I was driving and came to a stop at a stoplight. All of a sudden my car started making a very loud squealing sound, like a belt and the engine dies. I am able to start the car back up but it does exactly the same thing, squeal then shuts off. Any help? 95 GSR

 

mine did the same thing, but mine didnt start back up, timing belt broke

What have you checked since that happened? Probably nothing right?

 

Check your alternator belt.

 

all of my belts are there and look fine..

 

was your a/c on? mine used to do the same thing because the compressor was seized. check that out maybe

 

yes, my AC was on. If i crank the car should all the pulleys be spinning for ac/ps/alternator?

 

it was my ac compressor.

 

yes, sounds like metal to metal contact/grinding...the AC compressor seizing up but, you can still run your car by removing the ac belt if your in a bind and don't mind not having aircon.
