Transmission Woes
I was attempting to replace the brake rotor, and removed the CV joint. When I took it out, something exactly like this happened (pretty much the same exact position, etc., I found this pic on a different site when researching the problem).

Any way to fix it without tearing the whole tranny apart? I'm thinking there is an underlying issue for this to just "happen" when removing a CV joint. Basically, it isn't supposed to be there, it doesn't allow the CV joint to go in all the way, and I don't want to just push it up and see what happens (haven't even tried). Don't want to bork a whole transmission, when it could be an easier fix.

Ok... I think I solved my own problem.
I used my high tech measuring tool (screwdriver and finger) to measure the distance between the bar and the edge of the CV joint. Apparently, it's perfect, and supposed to be there. So, on closer inspection, the splines that go into the tranny are a bit chewed up and can't fit in there properly. Damn local mechanic... I pulled the bearings out when removing the CV joint, had to remove the boot and put them back in... Couldn't do it, took it to mechanic, he pounded on it to try to get them back in, screwing the splines up. After about 15 minutes of it, I tried to do it, wiggling it around, playing with it, and FINALLY it just slipped right in. Damage was already done, though. Dammit. $15 for the work he (didn't) do, plus $50 for the new CV joint.
And, all this crap just because I've read a few "tips" on how to remove the brake rotors (none of which worked). Definitely not taking it to the mechanic. I tried a puller, but it just pushed on the CV joint...
