Default How much boost can I run?

I was wondering how much boost I can run out of a B16A 84mm with 10.5 to 1 comp. I can use a cometic headgasket to lower it 10 to 1. I know different size turbos and so on will affect my choices. If any one can give me a good combination as starting point it would be appreciated. Keep in mind it will be a street driven car not a drag car.

Plans are:

750 or 850cc inj.
57 to 60 trim turbo @ 15-20 psi. Maybe bigger dont really want lag though
Stock B16A head for now.
2 1/2" exhaust or 3" with a cut out to a 2 1/2" axle back

Stock b16 with 10:1...maybe 15-20ish psi on a 57 trim. Whatever it takes to get you 300-350whp. I wouldnt run much more then that personally. Goodluck.

compare the compressor maps on the turbo's you want.. the one that stays in the efficiency range is the one you want.

The B16A is golden eagle sleeve to 84mm. Just wondering on max psi then go about 5 to 10 psi below that. Then I would decide on a turbo size and the rest of the setup.

unless you can get e85, crank it up till it knocks or something bad happens , then turn it down a little, cross your finger's and hope for the best.

I guess I didn't explain it thoroughly. I'm trying to figure out what my max psi I can run. Then go 5-10 psi below that. Then I can decide on the turbo size, injectors, ect.

We can sit here and guess all day, but with so many variables to consider, it's pretty much all speculation. Why don't you talk to your tuner, address your goals for the setup, and let him decide what is safe for your setup.

OP, you're going about it backwards. Do NOT let max psi dictate your setup. (I know I've said this 1000 times but), different turbos make different power at the same pressure level.

The key to a good turbo setup is to choose a power goal FIRST. Then plan your setup accordingly. Make sure your goal is within reason & limits of your setup & purpose of the car, choose the right size turbo , injectors, etc. to match your goal, discuss the goal with your tuner, & he will use whatever psi your setup will give him to make that particular power goal.

when u build a turbo motor, u dont build for how much boost, u build for power u want.. the block is sleeve so that a plus.. i would just leave it at 15lbs..u got 10;5;1 so no need to worry about lag

I understand what everyone is saying. But i'm trying to figure out my max boost psi and decide what turbo to get. I don't want to get a turbo that is almost maxxed out at a certain psi and decide to go higher psi and have to upgrade. Let say the block can handle 25 psi then I would go find a turbo that would be good to 25 psi at 9000 rpms. So that I would be running the turbo at about 80-85% of maximum at 20 psi.

I guess power goals are around 400-450 hp for now. Don't know if I have to swap out the 10.5 to 1 pistons though.

Keep turning the boost up till you bend a rod or break something. Then turn it back about 5lbs or so to keep it from happening again.

Why don't you go do that and tell me when your engine blows up so that I can say glad it ain't my engine.

I did and it held 470 on stock sleeves till it let go. but in all honesty just let it up to your tuner to decide on when to call it quites. I told my tuner to keep going. I knew it was going to blow at some point and now I have my reason to build a bigger and better car.....

Not being a sacastic or anything... But some people don't have the time or money to keep replacing or rebuilding engines. I would like to do it right the first time. If something unfortunate happens then I go from there.

I can understand that. I dont have the money to do that either. I was just to lazy to have my block sleeved and now its costing me an arm and a leg. lol but its whatever I have yet to regret anything....
