I've been researching this for quite some time now, found that I wanted an 02-03 with the glass rear window and 9k redline. Picked up an 03 with 45,000 miles on it last week. The car is fun, but not like the z51 corvette we used to have. I've been looking at turbo kits etc, I know it's best to piece together a kit that would keep cost down and gather higher quality parts, but I have heard great things about the Inline Pro kit and T1 manifolds. I plan on having a pump gas (93 oct) tune and a race gas (e85 or 110) tune. For the pump gas I was shooting for ~325 horsepower (daily) and race gas ~450. Seems like a somewhat larger turbo would make it easier for daily'ing without breaking the tires loose all the time. Plan on leaving the engine in the car, and keeping a/c. Stock internals with a 3mm head-gasket should be able to hold this easily with a good tune. I want this to be as reliable as it can (not going to be easy..) as it will be driven everyday it's not snowing / torrential downpour.

Could I get some recommendations on a kit? Or first hand experience?

look into a Greddy turbo kit. I personally have seen a 350hp s2k on this kit. Add better engine management, higher flow injectors and expect to pull more. PS. all stock engine.

EDIT: not sure on how much you can reliably pull out of a stock s2k.

 

Greddy kits do not belong on S2000s.

Look into something with a equal length manifold and a decent sized turbo. The stock motors can take a lot of abuse, with just a set of head studs and a good tune.

A bunch of companies including AFI, Peakboost, Full-Race, Mase Engineering, etc make very nice complete kits for the S2000 which will give you what you are looking for and more.

 

cast manifolds are not good at all with s2000's

i would look into a tubular manifold and a gt30r to hit all of your goals on pump gas, with the low power on low boost and a switch to have high boost and 450+hp

kpro as far as tuning and you will be set

 

I like the fitment of the AFI kits on the S2000, myself. Using a GT3uR, or even 60mm should do fine. No need for a 6262 or GT35R. In this case, its best to get the whole kit at once since there are so many nuances with fitment on the S2K. There's no need for a 3mm headgasket or any of that. Stock compression is fine. Inline pro is nice, but there are better ones out there.

And for god's sake, please don't swap the F20C out for a 2JZ engine like the guys in Tennessee do.

 

my buddy Eric has a 550whp s2000 and hes put about 13k miles on the turbo setup so far it at least 8-10k on race gas at 500+whp all on the stock motor and rear end. no reason why you cant have an s2000 with a substantial amount of power as long as you have the proper parts and proper tuning. id stick with the stock head gasket and compression no need to lower the c/r as long as you have enough octane.

hes running a synapse motorsport kit and the car was tuned there as well.
