What tire pressure for street tires?
This weekend I'm entering a car show/dragrace. I dont have enough time or money right now to come up with a pair of slicks, so I will just try to run my 205-40-16 street tires. What tire pressure do you guys recommend for street tires. I also have my stock 13" steelies with 175-70-13 tires that are almost completely bald, they are basically slicks, would I possibly get better traction with those vs the street tires?
Neither of those are really great options.....
The pressure that you can run on a street tyre depends on the tyre (unfortunately). A rough guide is a taller profile will go lower without going ^ shaped. It depends on rim size, compound, side wall strength, profile and other things.
What power and weight are you running???

Go with 19psi on your tires and work your way up or down. Testing is key. As for you 13s..I believe your going to need tread on those. Being bald doesn't mean its a slick or a drag radial. Those are made with a special compound that makes them stickier after doing a burnout or any form of heating up...I think....
My car is a basically stock body civic dx hatch. No A/C, P/S. I imagine it weighs in around 2200lbs? just a guess. I have a d16z6 sohc vtec , CAI, Exhaust, Kevlar clutch, well just read my sig. My tires are shitty little Hankook Ventus HRII's. they seem to have a pretty stiff sidewall and a good contact patch. Is it true that you should not warm up(burnout) street tires?
Uhh Seems NOBODY answered your question.
I run 20lbs on front and 30lbs on back
Works just fine on my car with street tires on the stip.
If its your daily driver go to a remote spot, but take a 12v air pump. Drop the pressure on the front to 20 lbs then check the launch reaction.
Standard tire pressure of 32 pounds will work on all 4 but a little lower will widen the contact patch and give you a better launch. When at the track get in that burnout pit, and turn them tires real good.

at some point you can lower the pressure enough to slow you down more than it help on the launch, so every car will be different
for sure run atleast max psi in the rear
