Default Which turbo is better!

Ok so I am ordering a downpipe next week and I have two turbos that have different exhaust flanges. Having an extra one is great just in case something happens but I dont want to buy two downpipes until something happens. What will be the better choice for me to install. (Built low comp D16)

Turbonetics t3/t04b

Garrett ???? It says 60ar m24 on the housing

4 bolts are always easier to install. having M24 and .60A/R means nothing in terms of the wheels that are used.

Yea I know it can be anything really 46-trim, 50-trim, 54-trim, 57-trim,

The turbonetic is 60trim and the wheel is a bit bigger, havent measured but I believe the garrett is a 57

Purpose of the car? use? D16s could use either turbocharger, and the inducer is larger, but not the exducer. you're just looking at about a 10-20whp difference maxed out, but the smoother powerband for such an engine would probably be the 57 trim. Personally, depending upon compression ratio, I'd go down to a 50 trim. But since you have these, stay on the smaller side if possible.

Use that 4 bolt turbine housing either way. MUCH easier to install than that damned 5 bolt Ford style housing.

This is will be a DD with some time on a road course, no drag. I have vitaras on eagle rods so on paper the comp is around the low 7's. The head and block where resurfaced/decked so its probably a bit higher. Feels a lot stronger than a stock z6 without the turbo.

I have heard turbonetics can handle upwards or 60 psi of oil pressure, are garrett turbos sensitive to high oil pressure. (I put a high pressure pump on my car and its been a problem)

Thanks for the help

Road racing I would look into a smaller turbo.

This is mainly DD, I will be able to count with one hand the times it will be at the track per year. Its about 200 miles away

Started with a small turbo but it didn't work out.

Any of those are sensitive to oil pressure. 90-100psi of oil pressure at cold start or WOT is the only time you have to worry about a restrictor for either turbo (doesn't matter if turbonetics, Garrett or Precision). 60psi of oil pressure at cold start/WOT is fine, but for a lower 7.4:1 compression, either one is going to take a lot of pressure to get it into its efficiency range, especially for road racing. transient response sucks (which is why you probably sold your smaller turbocharger) but still would have been a bit better considering your engine size and compression. Power is not so much important in road race situations, but over 200whp is fine.

I rather agree with da dude, for road racing, a smaller unit than even a 50 trim (T3 super 60 or T3/50 trim would work more effectively. If not, try the T3/T04E 57trim (if that's what it is and you're sure) for more street use.

Alright so use the Garrett, I will buy the 4bolt downpipe probably around 2.5 inches since the turbo will spool late. The Garrett also has all the fittings/restrictor installed so it will be easier to put it on there.

I still have the smaller turbo, its one of those big tdo5h 16g, I think its a 45-46trim?. Its an ebay one though and oil flows right through it when I turn on the car, even with a .25 restrictor, I rebuilt it and did the same thing. I never got to spool it though the motor is brand new the turbo failed right away. Only driven it to see how the low comp felt very short distances
