engine swap?!
hey guys i have a spun rod bearing and my car is knocking so im going to end up getting a new motor soon, but for prices i have seen i might as well swap the whole thing out, but i have no idea what to get? i have right now a d16y8 motor and tranny and was looking at some b series(16,18) but then i heard the d16z6 is a good engine too so just some help please. im not looking to spend a bunch nothing like a k series or anything.
Any b series would run you over 400 just for the mounts ecu and harness But if you stick with the single cam you could direct mount it. just need a ecu
B series would be funner on the long run!

You could do a b20b swap for faily cheap. Heres some links that might help for pricing.

hmotorsonline seems more reputable.. that's the only one I know of other than your local junkyard and craigslist

if you want a sporty yet daliy driveable car, stick with the d. a d16z6 with lower miles with the tranny, ecu shouldn't be more than $600. Then, if you still have extra money, put in a more aggressive cam and do the ever popular and extremely easy I/H/E.. if you still have more money after that, get a decent suspension.
Asaintony- for a d or b series engine he could use factory mounts, which will not run you over $400, unless he buys aftermarket which isnt nessacary.
Considering a single cam, the Z6 is great for the money. However i still recomend you go for the b series engine. It will cost a little more money and a little bit more work but it is well worth it.
By the way, what kind of car do you have?

If I were you Id get another single cam (cheaper) and then youll have the option to rebuild the y8 stronger. Maybe a turbo
lol thanks for all the input guys but a b18c are nice gsr motors but i dont have 3500 i want a b series i know i will have to make some minor adjustments especially with mounts but i need something more then the 127 hp and 107 pounds of tq the single cam gave, oh and its a 2000 coupe
You could do intake, header, exhaust, intake manifold, throttlebody. http://www.crower.com/cat/import/honda/cams/d16z.shtml
idk you won't get much with na from the d but it's always nice and cheaper

find another d series z6 for like 300-600 you can always lowball haha and then get kit about 600 and then tuning is about 250 if you dont have a chip ecu....im sure you wont spend 600 just for the z6 long block and maybe less for the kit and you wont be able to boost much since its not built but yeah with the extra money look into fuel injectors clutch and a fuel pump you can get about 200whp for 1500 better then any b series you can get for that much
here's my $.02:
best bang for your buck would be a z6 with matching tranny. it would run you about 4-600 including a new clutch, maybe more depending on where you shop/buy. the next best option to me would be to go b-series. you can run stock integra mounts, and save the $300 cost of aftermarket mounts (though they are worth the money). i have driven a gsr, and own a b16, but have never driven a ls or type-r. i will say this, for an entry level swap the b16 is perfect. its short geared trans makes up for the lack of tq and it has a great power band for daily driving. they can normally be found for ~2 grand including ecu, mounts, and clutch. the gsr is a great motor, but people tend to price then fairly high. the type-r is praised by almost everyone, but you would be looking at 4 grand easily for that. i dont see an ls as a reasonable swap stock, because the gears are too long, and if you wanna make power out of it, you will need a vtec head.

yeah thats y you get another swap..but i would say ls is not really worth it there are single cams out there hanging with it i have a ls swap with gsr trans and feels really slow to me but thats only cause i got the swap for 325 complete swap including gsr starfish rims
