Default repairing an s200 (P.S. hondata sucks)

i just recently purchased an s200 and notice that the wires for the datalogging cable have been soldered onto the board rather then having the latching clip. does anyone know where i could find that clip? i want to try and repair it myself. i contacted hondata to see if they offer repairs, and first i was asked "whats the serial #", after providing them with the serial #, he states "we no longer support the s200 but we do offer a trade in upgrade on an s300 system".....WTF? why ask me for the serial # in the first place then? well i then asked, where could i send the unit to have it repaired since you guys dont do it, and i havnt gotten a responce yet... am i better off just buying a random 4 pin latching header and modifying it to work? i don't want to have this wire hanging out of the unit all the time.

Perhaps he was checking on whether that serial number was reported as a stolen unit or not.

I assume you're talking about the 4 pin cable that runs to CN2 on the ECU since you mentioned a latching clip. This needs to be there all of the time anyway, since you need the S200 hooked up properly to run the S200 chip. Unless I'm missing something here what you're trying to do is pointless, as it will always be hanging out of the unit when in use.

you know what.....your right!!! lol i never really thought about it i guess. is there any way of checking if the unit works properly aside from taking it to a hondata tuner or purchasing their overly priced rom editor program??

I don't think there's any other way to test it, but I could be wrong.

Hondata royally sucks. I have the s200 (you can buy it for cheap if you want it), and I purchased the overpriced rom editor software. after getting a new laptop when the old one died, they refused to activate the software. They said they would no longer generate new keys. That's some bs if I ever heard it. They told me to spend a $100 on a cable which would reactivate the software. Lame as hell after giving them $600+ only months before. I could care less if I have the new version or not. It's better than a VFAC even if it has bugs. It worked for people before, it can work for me now. They're just a bunch of weasels, imo

It's just like everything else in electronics. When they upgrade systems they figure why should they support the discontinued stuff. They want you to buy their new stuff. I am by no means a Hondata fan at all, there is other stuff that works just as well if not better for less investment.

If Macintosh and the other computer/electronics companies can do it why can't Hondata? MAC always upgraded software that couldn't be used on older machines. So if you wanted the new software you had to buy a new machine or Upgrade. Same Idea! The difference is people in this market are cheap. In the computer world If you don't like the price of a new MAC you buy a PC and most people are happy with that. In this market if you don't like the price of a new Hondata unit you go extra cheap and buy a used unit or Crome. Then bitch becuase the product that was purchased is no longer supported.

Tip of the day. If your looking to buy tuning hardware and software that is reliable. Don't buy anything that is no longer supported/Discontinued Unless you are fully willing and capable of troubleshooting it on your own.

Correct. But..

At least Microsoft still activates XP licenses. And activates all their older office software, etc, even if they don't provide any new updates or support. I wasn't asking for help or updates/upgrades. I just wanted them to activate it, which is something that cannot be done by yourself. You must have never owned hondata before, because you would know the program creates a unique installation id for each install/machine. That unique installation id + your valid serial lets their keygen do the math and activate the software. (and remember I bought my setup a good while before the S300 was announced or released.)

And yes, I currently use crome

hondata is all about their money...if they keep coming out with new systems and new options/features then stop supporting the old stuff they force you to upgrade...like with most companies its all about their bottom line.
