Default Cobalt Friction Technologies = BIG thumbup!

I ordered some Axxis Ultimates from Andie at Cobalt, and if you haven't heard it enough before, he is a great guy and is very customer-oriented. We even chatted about he H-C race a bit I had a very good experience with Cobalt overall, and got the pads very quickly. They are in the car and bedded in, but I haven't really tried 'em out yet. I'm sure they'll be great from everything I've read on here. Thanks Andie!!!!

On another note, this is what my Panther+ looked like after a day of tracking:

Look good? I was a little concerned about that crack, should I be? They're pretty good otherwise overall, and turned this:

into a blinged-out smooth rotor

[EDIT] BIG thanks to Aleph for letting me invade his garage, use his tools, and for helping me change out the pads

Don't worry about the crack on the pad... If it falls apart, the backing plate will work just fine to stop you... Andie does kickass!

What track were you running the P+'s on. I had a HPDE at Sebring full course last month and yours look brand new.
Andie is a good guy, got me some Ultimates and love em.

Heh, I need new rotors anyway

The event was at Beaverun, which is 1.6 miles, glass-like asphalt, and it was my first track day ever, so I definitely wasn't murdering the brakes (a ~105 to ~60 braking zone and another ~105-110 to ~45-50). I did expect a little more wear, so I'm happy with the amount that's left. I would like not to have to use the backing plate to stop though

Andie and Cobalt get the huge thumbup for sure. Excellent service, helpful and always ready to chat! Can't be beat! I'll be ordering from him again!

Got my Ultimates on the car, but didn't get a chance to bleed the system, so the cars still up on jack stands. I'll probably get to it this weekend and bed the pads in. For those interested in the outcome of my rotor selection dilemma, I decided to be a cheap bastard and keep the stock rotors on there for now. I had the fronts turned (they can't be turned again now), but the rears were still within factory specs. They couldn't be turned, but the were worn dead even! I was surprised.

Anyway, to Andie and Cobalt!

Steve

I've bought ~15 sets of track pads from various vendors over the past 3 years (Carbotech, KFP, Porterfield, Hawk, EBC). Every one of them eventually developed a small hairline crack like that. Actually, that's a lie. There was nothing left of the EBC pads after 60 miles but scorched backing plate.

Hehehe... I can break anyone's good track record for delivering brake pads on the first try... In the time since I've been ordering track pads (June 1999) I have only had 1 order delivered on the first try. I think I'm just cursed, since it's been with whatever vendor I've called. The last one I even told I had terrible luck getting brake pads, and he said "I'd have no problem at all from them". Hehehe... true to form, the address was typed in wrong and UPS wouldn't bring me my pads. The vendor ended up sending me a whole new box, and just recalled the others. It's actually something I find humor in now, and always order pads about 2 months before I need them.

hehehe... r2x

Hehe, Matt...but the bright side of the EBC's is that the backing plate on the rotor has a coefficient of friction of around 0.50mu...which is probably better than the EBC compound itself. <evil grin> <feeling a little guilty for saying that>

Agreed, the hairline cracks...nothing to worry about, as it is just a result of thermal expansion and contraction. Most compounds exhibit this. The only thing to watch for is if the compound chucks and crumbles. I have not seen the Carbotech compounds crumble before.

Thanks guys I definitely don't need to be spending money on new brake pads for a while, good to know they'll last me (which I kinda figured/hoped ). Time to go test out the ultimates!

You think you're kidding, but you're not. They are very proud of their .35 mu (which is much worse than a good street pad)

The only thing to watch for is if the compound chucks and crumbles
Only one I've every had a problem with doing that was Hawk HT8. Otherwise, that compound kicked ***.
