Honda Accord radiator problem
I have a 2005 Honda Accord with 21,000 miles...yep...my wife's car. It is garage kept, serviced regularly and recently I noticed the radiator overflow tank was below minimum. I added antifreeze 3 times, no spillage noted on garage floor. I took car in to dealer, they ran pressure test and said I needed a new radiator. After $650 and 2 days I have the same problem. The overflow tank was at maximum now it is below minimum. Does anyone know why that is? I haven't a clue as to where the antifreeze is going.
The overflow should be between the Full hot and Low mark on a cold engine...after the rad a lot of air will work its way out of the system , so the coolant in the overflow will drop off. In the morning depending on temperature make sure its between the lines, like I said the level will vary alot after any cooling system repairs.
Thanks for the reply. I notice the new radiator moves sort of back and forth when I push on it. Is it supposed to do that? It probably gives about an inch or so. It does not seem to wobble or shake when the car is idling but just curious about why it would move a bit when I lightly push on it. any comments would be appreciated as I hate to make another trip to the dealer.
Most Honda radiators just sit on two lower cushions on a frame and are held in on the top by two upper brackets with cushions. Not much to it, in terms of what's actually holding it. There will be some give when pushed by your hand, so that is normal.
