Icon6 Rear balance shaft gear removal

A friend of mine is trying to remove the oil pump to re-seal between the pump housing and engine on a 1997 Accord with a F22B2 engine. He's at the point to remove the pump housing except that he can't get the rear balance shaft gear off. He removed the bolt but the gear won't pull off and there is no room to get standard gear puller jaws beneath it. Is there another way to get it off or does Honda have a special puller? Any advice or information would be much appreciated.

Thanks

There aren't any special pullers that I know of. Mine pretty much fell off. If it's stuck on there just give it a few love taps with a rubber mallet @ 12, 6, 3 & 9. That should help wiggle it loose.

Friend? Just admit it it is yourself that needs the help. Your "friend" has a computer. Ask your "friend" to get on the net nd ask himself. If Your "friend" really exists.

Listen smarty. I drive a 2000 Type R as my signature suggests and my friend DOES NOT have a post account here on Honda Tech. It is kind of hard to crawl out from under a car and go through the registration and 5 post minimum process just to get a quick answer.

Whether you choose to believe it’s me or not is frankly BEYOND my realm of care.
If you do have a helping answer I’ll be very glad to get to hear it. If not it would seem smarter to use a lot less energy and just ignore my post.

Thanks to the other who responded.

And just so hot ‘BEER’ gets poured down your butt crack:

Here is my friend’s post on a site he has a registered account.:

For anyone in the future still struggling with this. But before you do anything make sure you have a long bolt to lock the rear balance gear.
Yes, I just got mine off this second. You wont have clearance for rubber mallet. I used a long piece of wood and hit with a hammer on the bottom portion near the bottom bolt hole. You free it from the bottom and you can finally kind get it from the top. I didn't need to hit anything from the top because I didn't have clearance anyway. You will notice if you are getting it. It will start leaking motor oil. And you are starting to free it from it's matting surface. Just keep wiggling it back and forth and it will come off.
