99civic ex with ls engine and ECU: Problem with passing emissions in NJ?
just bought a 99civic ex with a ls b18b1 swap in it..bought the car from pa and i live in nj. car has an ecu out of an integra(94-01) and when i go to get it inspected for obd2 emissions(north jersey) it will come up as an integra and they will fail it.(?) am i correct in thinking this..what are my options besides finding a inspection station that i can buy a sticker from.?
For any emissions testing I ever heard tell of the ECU must match the engine. and communicate with a scan tool if its an OBD2 vehicle, Make sure you have a USDM OBD2 ECU.
right. but doesnt the ecu have info about the car it was built for? like if they hook up the computer to it wont it say its an integra and they are looking at a civic?

Normally I believe they just check for stored CEL codes. IIRC the ECU will just show up as Honda, since Acura=Honda its not really an issue. Either way I think you're over analyzing this. California has the strictest emissions laws and testing in the country and guys there have no problems passing.

'96 - '99 ECU will work but require a conversion harness which depending on the state isn't allowed. '00 - '01 ECU will plug right in but has an immobilizer that has to be removed and replaced with a dummy chip, H-T member Katman used to do this for $100 IIRC, PM him for details.
