Default shifting issues

Ok... I got an issue with my shifting... I was driving down the street. Made a turn went into a dip and then I couldn't shift. I had to push my car over to the side and figure out a way to move it. Luckly when I put it in neutral (oddly enough) it went forward. What happened? Do I need to replace my transmission??? Or is it something with my shifter? In short... HELP!!!!!

Please note... that when I saw go in neutral I really mean go. I had the car in neutral and managed to drive it ok. You think my spring pin broke??? Something???
