Default New to forums, honda ect, new questions

Hey,
I want to start off by saying i have read and looked around the internet for well over 2 weeks now trying to decide on a project car.

I have always liked the crx, it is ligh and handles well.

My budget for the project is only about 8k....but could be stretched..hopefully not.

I really just want a flat 14 sec. car that handles VERY well. Can i do this with my budget? From what i understand cost would run like this...

Car(Chassis, blown engine, what not) - 500-1000
Engine(B16a)-2500(new seals, tune up, exaust ect, mabey even cams and such?)
Wheels(Ssr Comps.) 1600
Paint - 600 (will do myself...)
Susp - 800
Junkyard special interior components - 200

This is 6600, what should be more, would this engine be putting 160+ to the wheels? Would another engine be a better option?

Thanks,
Confused me

Looks like you have it very well planned. Go for it, this board and other informational web sites are your tools...

Make sure to buy a CRX si, or the job will be a lot harder. Swapping parts and ****. Here are some great references for your project.

http://lyonel.8m.com - b16a performance.
http://tech.hybridgarage.com/tech/4gtech/index.html - a MUST!

Take your time, be patience, and most of all learn and have fun.

Oh yeah, welcome to the board!

my personal and most likely not very popular opinion, forget about B series motors if you want the car to handle and be only 14sec 1320 performer. i opted for an SI version (sentimental value, and i like small luxuries). those D16A6 motors are very nice platforms to build up, cheaply. having 14sec all motor D16 is easy and if you go low PSI turbo, even low 13. i have been hoping to put a built B16 in my car for a while, until i drove my buddies civic STD with the swap done, given i screams till 8500RPMS, but what good does it do when it understeers and fades the front brakes? (he has identical brake system as myself) again it is my opinon based on my personal experience.
here is what i would do in your shoes.
car- well get it cheap, that is all i can say (i paid 2500 for mine)
suspension- so far i have most likely invested 1000-1500 in the suspension. not done yet, prolly another 1000-1500 (yes i think suspension is second only to brakes)
brakes (could be part of suspension) i had spend a whooping 1500, but you can do it much cheaper.
wheels... well SSR are great, but why?
consider about an extra 1000 for all those important little things that are broken (steering rack, in mu case, etc.)
in general concentrate on suspension and brakes, that along will make the car a blast to drive. (outbraking everyone and rotaing in a turn 10-15 MPH faster than others)
get the A6 rebuilt with popular hotrod componets (D16Y8 intake manifold, D16Y7head/W A6 cam, B series TB, D16A1 pistons and B18B rods) all that engine work will be cheaper than the swap and make the motor either a high compression little screamer with the A1 pistons (provided you do some head work and imporove valve train and the cam) or turbo ready motor with a cheap homebuilt turbo kit.
the main reason for all that would be relatively cheap parts and labour, keeping it all honda, and most importantly (for me, at least) the lightness of the D series motor.
do a search in tech and 4the gen forums on all those mentioned, i learned quite a bit and gained a lot of respect for my A6 (that and taking it to redline almost everyday and still having it start all the time without any problems)

(yes i use a lot of parentesis)
