A/C Compressor replacement or reseal
Just came in from the a/c repair man and was told that the seal closes to the control arm is leaking so all the gas from the a/c is leaking and was shown by the leak trace they put in the line. So the control arm looks wet. What i want to know is do i have to replace the entrie compressor or can i buy a seal?
Was he not able to answer this, or did you not bother to ask him?
From what I can tell, you can't overhaul the compressor.
Chances are it would cost more to have it rebuilt (if that is a possibility) than it would to replace it with a used one. New ones are expensive! Remanufactured ones really aren't that much cheaper.
Can you see the source of the leak? Are you sure it's something inside the compressor and not just a leaking o-ring from the suction or discharge lines?
