A/C Compressor is Dead!

A/C Compressor is Dead!
Just as the title states.. My A/C compressor died on Friday. I have a stock 2004 Accord LX V-6 with 215K on it.. Has anyone replaced their compressors and is it worth it? I have gotten one quote for $2K and I am not sure it is worth fixing. I have heard horror stories of people replacing their units and then the new unit dies shortly afterwards due to metal shards in the return lines from the old one. Is it time to trade the old girl in? Thanks.

Re: A/C Compressor is Dead!
if the compressor seized up then it is best to replace ALL ac components from lines, condenser, evap core etc..if you want to check to see if there is material inside the system evac the system and disconnect one of the hoses and swab it with a qtip and see if there is any metal shavings

Re: A/C Compressor is Dead!
If you replace the compressor, you need to at minimum flush all of the lines, condenser, etc. It's probably a good idea to go ahead and replace it all as well.
My advice would be the buy a Denso unit instead of one of the other brands. I had a shop replace mine when it died and it lasted right at a year. I'm pretty sure they used a Four Seasons compressor.
I replaced it after it died with a Denso and am much happier. I flushed my evaporator core and the lines, but replaced all other components. I probably should have replaced my evaporator core as well since it was such a pita to get out.
As for installation, the compressor is pretty easy to change. As is the condenser. However, if you decide to change the expansion valve and evaporator core, those two items are a major pita to replace. You have to disassemble part of the dash on the passenger side.

Thanks for the info. Any idea on which fuse runs the compressor? I am not able to use my defrost button because it kicks the compressor on and that kills the engine.
