B16 Tranny Noises Help
Hey OK swapped the b16 over into my car and the clutch was **** so we replaced the clutch resurfaced the flywheel and new axles. The car finally turned on and everything was good but now the tranny makes a weird sound almost like the tire hitting fender liner/fender kind of sound when you are slowing down or depress the clutch at a slow rate in gears. But when you are driving it drives like a champ good acceleration and everything. What the hell is going on? Is the tranny **** or did something mess up when putting in the new clutch?
Does the sound occur in & out of gear? Does it only occur when you press the clutch pedal to the floor? Does the sound occur only on decel, but not on accel or steady cruise? At this point it could be a lot of things. Could be a bearing in the trans, could be the throw out bearing, could be that the flywheel clutch mounting surface was machined too far compared to the flywheel friction surface causing the clutch pressure plate "fingers" getting pressed into the clutch disc hub (the sound would be something like "fvfvfvfv" when you press the clutch pedal all the way to the floor with the vehicle in gear, stopped, and the engine running, a lot of other problems would arise with that too like starting engine with trans in neutral and can't put into gear with clutch pedal pressed to floor, and clutch slipping under heavy load).
I would lean toward a transmission bearing, but further details & checks would be needed to be certain.

it occurs in gear... so lets say i am going from 3rd gear to 2nd gear to make a turn you hear the grind sound and everything is ok no sounds at all accelerates fine... OR lets say you have it in 2nd or 3rd and you let go of the accelator and clutch and you are at a low speed you hear it like a screeching metal sound. if you press the clutch down there is no sound. Yes decel and when you downshift. I noticed 3rd is a little hard to get into but it will go in and stay in other than that the gears go in smooth in all the other gears. I havent heard the fvfvfv sound ur talking about =\ i guess thats a good thing LOL.. If it was the tranny bearing do you have to tear apart the whole tranny to get into that?
