Hi all,

Iam debating whether to buy either one of the engine for my swap. Both selling for the same price.D15b got some transmission problem and D16 go a head gasket leak. Both are auto transmission. I will do a manual swap in the future.

I need some advises on the hp output, gas usage, performance wise, tuning, upgrades parts-which engine should I choose?
btw i swapping in to EK hatch which is a JDM D13b Auto.

Some of u might ask why not save more for a B swap. answer is it cost me 10x the money to buy a B front cut at my place. So why not go for D wit a good deal n fine tune it?

friend has a d15b vtec swaped in his ek coupe,went through hell before he got the 3 stage system to work but he is getting almost 40mpg while driving hard and the little thing is pretty fast for the numbers it makes.

 

if it were me I'd go with the d15b, I'm seeing similar whp but the motor is more efficient. I actually thought about doing a turbo d15b with three stage v tec instead of the nitrous b20 i'm building now. awesome little motor

 

I heard those little JDM D15B 3 stage VTECs are hardcore.

 

Man the d15b is a vtec screamer. My last hatch had one. I'd imagine with boost it would be crazy.

 

Iam a little worry about the 3 stage system thing to work....I scare when i tune it, it will not like tuning a single vtec system. 40mpg consider save or?

 

my first though confused me wit 1.6 making more hp than 1.5. So d15b will be better than d16. Turbo?? will it cause lag becuase of the 3 stages system?

 

wat are the things i need for the swap.? basically mine is a D13b auto with no vtec. Can i jus use bac my wiring n add a vtec n knock sensor n do mod on the IACV plug.?

Wat else do i still need..?

Transmission: S40/S20 which one better interm of gear ratio, can handle daily n some hardcore driving?
