and after all that is done, where can i find a cubby hole/little compartment for where the radio is normally placed?

one thing alot of people do is get the cup & coin holder out of older taurus/sables it fits perfectly (junk yard). or any empty pocket that would normally come with a stereo mounting kit will fit in there as well.

 

what year Civic?? you should just be able to use a universal Din pocket available from Metra. typically 20 bucks at a big box store. if you need one let me know.
