Hope you slept well. From the description of your sound/issue, I'd check the heat sheilds on the exhaust pipes....does the sound only happen when the car is cold?
Sounds to me like the reverse spur gear is not popping into position and grinding, which coincides with making more noise when he hits the gas. Does the car move in reverse when it's making the noise?
i think i know what your talking about my friend has the same problem in a DA9 like it sounds like some scratching noise or something and like the car wont reverse?? he got quoted and they just said 60.00 at some transmission shop or somethinggg
I know it's old topic, but describes well what I am facing with my F22Z2 1998 EU Accord (4AT).
So all gears are engaged successfully, but when the fluid is hot and I put in reverse on some hill or when the car is loaded it moves but I hear something like metal splippage. It's definitely not the standard gear noise that most Hondas with M/T have (mine also have it but after the initial high torque is reduced, i.e. after the high torque+hot fluid noise). Any ideas? I refreshed the fluid twice with Honda ATF-DW1.

By the way, the noise I described sounds more like high pitch whinning noise, mostly pronounced when the transmission is under high load/torque. Considering that my magnetic plug was completely covered with gunk after the first fluid drain could that be translated as fluid pump starvation due to clogged internal filter and/or sticky valves? If that's the case why would the pump experience lack of fluid only when high torque needed?
The whirr/whine Ive heard from 89-97 H4As is usually when the screen is so impacted that the trans is inoperable.
This sound usually is emitted from the TC/pump area, since the pump is cavitating. Take a long solid object, broom handle or long extension, place it on the case and place your ear against that. You should be able to pinpoint the sound.
I don't know what trans you have.
If there is a throttle cable between the TB and trans its an H4A.
If there is noncable but has an 'H' shapped linear solenoid then it is an M6HA.
