Axle Trouble..need some help please
ok i went to put my stock passenger side axle back in which is the half shaft...it will not go into the transmission all the way. when i look into the tranny there is like a black tube thing blocking the way of the axle...when i turn the car on the black thing moves in a circle...spins.. what is it and how do i get my axle back into my tranny..thank you
Thats the spider gear cross shaft, open diff transmissions have these (non lsd). Your axle should pop back in sometimes they are a little tricky, have you tried tapping it in with a hammer?
no it stays there. how far in does it go in?? if it goes more than half of the chrome shaft you need to make sure you kinda twist it in and you can use the same axle as a "slide hammer" to kinda pop it in..

THAR BLACK PIECE WILL NOT MOVE, IT IS SUPPOSED TO STAY THERE. ITS A FACT, FORGET ABOUT IT, THAT IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM!!!! Yes i was talking loudly. push the axle in as far as u can get it, use a scrap of wood and pound the axle in with a hammer using the wood as an insulator so the hammer does not damage the axle, twist and repeat till done!
Yes same axle never took it off the hub....that hammering did not do anything at all. it will only go in so far and that black piece is not moving at all...so if anyone can help me out heres some pics finally guys.. thank you as well
if your talking about the stick in the middle of the spider gear, thats normal, but if the actual part that grabs the ridges of the axle is getting in the way, then the differential fell of its place. so its not good anymore.
