Default Trans issues

Ok so a few months back i bought a 1999 civic hx for my gf. Had the a car a week and the trans took a ****. somebody put atf in the cv trans that was in the car. I looked around for a new trans but could only find a standard 4-speed automatic trans so we installed that in the car.

The issue we have now: Cold start-up the car hesitates shifting into reverse, however it will shift normally through all the other gears. Once it warms up, the car feels doggish, doesnt shift properly, and the D4 light stays lit up no matter which gear you select. It kinda seems to only have 2nd and 4th when it warms up. any ideas?

try changing the old shift solenoids onto the new trans, or getting some at the junk yard. make sure u check the fluid level with the car OFF. and warm.

not really. they just fail. they are easy to change. the way to test them is to ground them, and add power to the plug. but sometimes even if they click they still dont open.

im not sure which one is for the reverse and first. but if i were you i would change both. or interchange them. see if it makes the car only work on first gears.

You can't run a regular 4 speed automatic in an HX, they're controlled completely differently than a regular automatic. engine and cabin harness is completely different. Either find another CVT tranny or a 5 speed manual.

I changed out the harness for the harness that came out of the 4spd car.
