Default Intermediate shaft oil seal replacement information

After a recent motor swap I am having a small leak between the intermediate shaft and the tranny.

To replace the oil seal do I have to remove the driver's side axle to get the slack to pull the intermediate shaft out or can i just unbolt some suspension parts to get enough slack to get it out and put on the new seal?

Any write-ups someone could point me to?

Correct me if Im wrong, Im not good with the technical names of things, but your half shaft there is leaking oil from the tranny?

Its a little black rubber plug that sits on the outside of the tranny and is sealed in when you pop the axle in.

The half shaft has to be removed in order to get at it.

Its more than a bitch job.

From what i understand for technical names the halfshaft is the axles and the intermediate shaft is the part pictured above and is used to reach the driver's side halfshaft (aka axle)

The question is can i just unbolt the intermediate shaft or do i need to remove the halfshaft (aka axle) from the hub?

thanks

I know the shaft needs to be unbolted, but do i need to take the axle out from the hub or anything to be able to pull the intermediate shaft out enough to install the new seal?

I forgot that tranny oil would pour out from that hole. Will have to pick up some honda MTF along with the seal.

I don't think you are going to be able to pull the shaft out of the transmission if you just unbolt the 3 bolts holding the brace to the block, if that's what you are asking. Considering that the drivers side axle (halfshaft) is about a 10 minute job to replace, why not just go through it, even if the other way is possible, it would be a pain comparatively.

You have to remove the axle, then pull the intermediate shaft from the transmission and with a flat blade screwdriver just pry the old one out, it's already shot so don't worry about being gentle. Now, with installing the new one, you probably don't have the tool it calls for to install but if you have a large socket or something similar that's the same diameter of the seal you just place it over the seal with it in place over the diff housing and tap it in with a mallet. It's like doing a rear main, you want to press it in evenly to ensure it seals properly and doesn't leak.

the easiest way to do it is
1.jack up car
2take off tire
3.take off the 17mm crown nut under the lower ball joint that holds the spindle to the lower control arm.
4.bang it with a hammer, (leave the nut on the balljoint only like two or three turns)
5.the ball joint will come loose, and u can lift it out of the lower control arm,
6. take off the three bolts behind the interm. shaft,
7. Pull it out.
8. with a flat head screwdriver u can pop the seal off.
9. reverse everything. .

no. just make sure you lube the seal with alittle bit of oil so the axle wont tear it up on the first run. after that it will lube itself.
