Master Cylnder, Proportioning Valve, and other questions.
Hey guys. A few years ago I bought a 94 civic hatch for my "project car". I swapped in Integra front and rear brakes, a 40/40 proportioning valve, booster and a 15/16" master cylinder. Now I got a 92 Civic. I bought it with an ITR 5 lug conversion. The new hatch has a 1" master cylinder and a 30/40 proportioning valve. I am planning on swapping over my 4 lug from my old hatch to my new hatch and selling the 5 lug. My question is, should I keep the 1" MC and 30/40 prop. valve in the new hatch, or also swap over the 15/16" MC and 40/40 prop. valve?
3040 sounds like its from a EG SI hatch which had smaller front brakes and rear disc. From what I've read, most people use the 40/40 but 40/40 supposedly sends too much fluid to the rears which can cause them to lock up whereby the 30/40 sends enough to not cause the problem.
One inch Master Cylinder would be bigger. Increasing MC bore will increase your pedal effort and decrease your pedal travel. Decreasing MC bore will decrease your pedal effort and increase your pedal travel.
after some research it looks like i'm going to use the 30/40 prop. valve and the 1" master and see how that goes...
Im not too sure about the 1 inch vs the 15/16 but i do know if you like to hit the turns hard the 30/40 valve is way better, ive spun mine around numerous times from coming down on the brakes too hard with the 40/40 in a turn, havent had any problems since i changed. I believe the ITR has a 1 inch and a 30/40, seems like if honda did it that way on their flagship we should follow suit.
The 1 inch is almost 2mm bigger. I think the other dude is right. Maybe the smaller would be better. Everything ive read says go 1 inch. But I havent seen any feed back so its hard to tell. If you arent heavy on the breaks, (engine braking helps gas mileage. And you dont wanna hit brakes in a turn. You hit them before the turn.) 1" will be fine. Try braking while going straight. Give it some good pressure. If they lock up, change it.
