Default 94 civic overheating issue

The car is a 94 Civic EX. It has a jdm d15b engine, no mods all oem. I was driving to a gas station after work last night and i noticed a weird smell through my ac, when i park i notice white smoke coming from under my hood. I check the radiator and it looks empty, and the needle on the temp gauge had raised to the top.

I let it sit and refilled the radiator and resevoir and let it idle and it seemed fine, temp gauge where it should be but slowly it started to raise. i let it cool off again and made dash home luckily living about 3 min from the gas station.

I did a little research and right now i'm trying to weigh my options. The radiator fan did not not kick on, the lower raditor hose stays cool whereas the top is hot but i dont notice an swelling. i also just noticed a small oil leak coming from the valve cover and looks like its trickling down and there is a little puddle on top of the block right under the bottom of the head. i'm not sure if thats from the valve cover leak or possibly headgasket.

the motor was ordered from hmotorsonline and has had around 2,500 miles on it since the install.

Sounds like your thermostat is stuck closed.

Fan not coming on at that temperature indicates a malfuntion in your fan circuit. Check the fuses. After you know you have power through out the circuit, bypass the fan switch to check the sensor itself.

i jumped the plug for the radiator fan so that works, replaced the thermostat and upon refilling the radiator we found a leak coming from the hose that connects to the heater? replaced that and now everything is good. thanks guys
