Default 93 Del Sol leaking roof

Like the title says,

I got a 93 Del Sol Si. Its known for the roofs to leak. Mine leaks on the driver side where the seal for the roof and the seal for the car meet. I know I could buy the new seal kit for it but I aint spending that kind of money for it lol

So my question is, is there a way to fix the problem with out buying the seal kit for it? Have any Del Sol owners with the same problem fix this?

Thanks

Kev

A lot of 93's leaked right from the factory, only fix I know of is to change them to the 95+ version.

Search around on here there's a couple threads with links to places that sell them cheaper then the dealer.

Yea, I have done some searching but not too much. Havent really found anything yet.

If it comes to it, I might have to go to the 95+ but thats only if there is really no possible way of fixing this. Im sure there is a way out there somewhere lol

Thanks for the help

I've heard of guys with Sols putting extra washers so when it clamps down it clamps tighter .

Do you ever take off your top?

For now until you have money to buy new seals, you can put silicone sealant in the top , you just can't remove the top from now on out until you find some seals.

Junkyard might have a SOL with ok seals

Yea I take the top off when I can. No A/C But its gonna start cooling off alot soon. So I wont be taking it off as much.

I know the silicone option is there but its not worth it if you like the top off.

And junkyards, yea Im gonna do that next. I doubt Ill find one. I live in DE lol Not too many yards around here. Still wouldnt hurt to look though.

Thanks for the advice,

Kev

Dood The best thing would be getting new seals. I know you said you don't to spend the cash but it's better to replace the seals than the seats, carpet, radio or anything else you have that is valuable that you want to keep dry.

Check http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ thay sale factory parts but at cheaper prices.

Which pieces are you needing?

Are the seals torn at all or just getting tired?

if it is not torn you can condition the seals and that will likely solve the issue

conditioning the seals is pretty simple and should be done every 6 months or so

go to the auto parts store and get spray on silicone lubricant, and silicone lubricant gel (Shin Etsu Honda Grease) sold at Honda Dealerships

grab a few soft rags

take the top off the car

spray the rubber down with the spray silicone
get it nice and saturated
now gently wipe it off... you will get a lot of black nasty stuff on the rag

repeat this a few times until it looks a little better
once that is pretty clean spray a light coat on and let it sit for a few minutes untill it is mostly absorbed

next get the Shin Etsu Silicone grease and put a decent coating on the rubber... lay it on there somewhat thick there should be a mm or 2 covering the seals

wait about 30 min (the longer the better)
wipe off any extra silicone that is not absorbed
spray a light coat on again

put the top back on

the seals should be nice again as long as they werent shot to hell before hand
the top shouldnt chatter and squeak as much if at all now either

Agent 47 is sum what right .by putting grease on the seal will repel water but this a temporary fix and will need to be repeated offten. as water will once again find it way in.

Why waste your time, and do a crap temp fix when you could just a 95+ new seal kit a few washers to tighten it up, and keep your seals greased a little bit so they don't rot. You say you don't want to spend the money to fix it the right way the first time so your choosing to do a bunch of shoddy temp fixes that will with out a doubt leak again, and you'll be back at square 1 lol. If I'm not mistaken the kit is only $60.00
