engine coolant temp, how hot is too hot?
I have a 95 civic with a b20vtec turbo, tuned with hondata s300. With prolonged freeway driving the ECT rises to 223.5 f. and stays there until I get off the freeway and return to city driving. This only happens during the hottest part of the day. Car has a new thermostat, water pump, and its been properly bled with 25/75 antifreeze water mix. I have a aluminum radiator with slim line fan w/ a shroud. Is this temperature something to worry about?
not sure of how much help this will be, but here it goes. The boiling point of water is 212 degrees F, as we all know. The coolant system in the car is pressurized which raises that boiling point 13 degrees(if i remember correctly) per psi. Somewhere you should be able to find what the pressure rating of the system is and then figure out where the coolant will boil at. This is just for water you would also need to find out what temp your aintifreeze boils at and then figure that into play.
232.5 sounds within reason to not be boiling, but i don'k know per say if it would be standard operating temperature.

well 230 is isnt to hot, but anything over 240 i wouldnt put it into boost at all, an average car turns the fans on at around 210-220 degrees, but being a turbo car, make sure you have proper clearance between your intercooler and core support otherwise at highway speeds there will be a air bubble of hot air trapped between the intercooler and radiator that will cause overheating issues, especailly with the poor flow of sucking power that a slim fan puts off
