Most affordable Air Intake kit?
So I am starting the process of "upgrading" my accord and I think I can afford to start with an Air Intake Kit. I've been seeing K&N is the way to go, but how much and where do you buy your intake kits?!
Thanks
Thanks
Make your own....Go to AutoZone or PepBoys and by the pecies you need...Its the same, just not aluminum...instead its plastic....I paid $55 for my spectre short ram...
what are you smoking? the intake/intercooler piping sold at autozone IS aluminum
OP, an intake is NOT gonna make enough difference to be worthwhile UNLESS you complement it with a header. The motor is a giant airpump.
Just becasue the "inlet" aka intake is opened up, doesnt mean air will travel out the header/manifold aka "outlet" any faster
Do both of course for best effect.
With just an intake, you are only changing the sound your motor makes.
It looks better then the stock airbox of course, which is why most people do it, but performance wise you need to balance everything out.

You could always look around on craigslist and ebay. I got a used k&n short ram intake from ebay for $60 bucks. =D I've got headers, intake and exhaust. You can feel the difference when all the components are added to the car. My next upgrade is the TSX intake manifold. =D

I have an aem cold air on my 2004 v6 accord and it actually helped with about 15hp+ Dont get a short ram intake. Cold air is better for n/a engines because its closer to outside air which is cooler making it more dense entering into the manifold. Short ram works best on turbos just because the turbo is going to heat the air entering the engine anyways and short ram I've heard can cause damage to your car.
id look into jpipe/pre-cat deletes. all an intake does is really deepen the sound of vtec IMO. no much noticed power gains until you add exhuast/jpipe/pre-cats

No dynos to prove but when racing my friends saab turbo i couldnt beat him and now i can because i have more power in the mid and upper range. My mechanics teacher who has had to do a couple engine repairs on cars that had short ram, not saying its fact or fiction its just what i have heard.
Those wanting Dyno graphs I assume you mean 3rd party ones, not manufacture .
As far as manufacture dyno numbers on stock engine seems 5-10hp depending on engine K24/J30 and on the newer Gen8 K24Z/J35 10 ish for both .
It seems the newer Accords have pretty free flowing exhaust (cat back)exhausts as aftermarket cat back don't do much unless engine has radical work down (like FI)
