Default 12 EGR - exhaust gas recirculation lift valve

So my CEL was on and I did the diagnose and I counted 12 blinks. One long blink and 2 short ones.

I'm 99% sure you're talking about a 4th gen accord, right 1990-1993? I 'm not too familiar with the codes but from your subject post I would assume a good cleaning would benefit. I would look into the FAQ section and do an EGR port cleaning. It requires drilling I beleive.. This gives general directions but I would recommend you get a manual to aid you.

Plugged EGR ports wont cause a code 12 on this car.

for this model year, the car does not diagnose egr, so clogged egr ports wont cause the CEL to light up...it wuz from cars i think from 97 or higher to diagnose the problem...still a good egr cleaning is worth it, look i cleaned mine and its a huge difference..drilling isnt required!....all u need to unclog the ports are with a pocket screwdriver. for more info ask away, i done this job and no problems...

If his car is 90-93, he needs way more than a pocket screwdriver. The OP already has an assumption that cleaning the ports will fix a code 12. But it wont.
