is it my clutch or tranny that is making this noise?
alright i have a 97 5-speed Honda civic coupe and i was wondering if it's the tranny or the clutch that is causing the sound. it kind of sounds like the clutch is grinding cause when i put it neutral it makes the noise but it doesn't when i put the clutch in but the other day it made the sound in 4th gear. I also need new bushings in it so could it be that or should i had new fluid? what is the best to put in?

alright thanks everyone but should I just get a new transmission or fix the bearing cause I'm going to do a engine swap some day but it will be a while and i haven't put any fluid in yet cause i just got the car but i will do that.
I've replaced my transmission, and also replaced the throw out bearing.. my final conclusion is the clutch. it chatters while in idle/neutral and you can hear it once in awhile through the rpms... so just really make sure you know it's the tranny, trust me you'll hate removing the transmission more than once in a month.
++ to the clutch chattering. Man I did an engine swap and for 2 months or so I was worried sick cause it sounded like a very very subtle knock at certain rpms. 12k miles later I'm sure it's just clutch chatter since I didn't get the surfaces done correctly.

if you fill to the proper level and it stops then it's most certainly the tranny.. lol I'm still on the fence about my ordeal: get the flywheel/clutch combo or buy a b18?? lol
