How to duplicate vss signal? Which Guage Cluster?
My P61('93 GSR) ECU is not getting a vss signal. I have tried everything and can't get it to work.
My car has been converted from ODB0 to ODB1 and it's almost impossible to find a '92-'93 GSR guage cluster. Do you guys know if any other clusters would be compatible?
I am now at the point where I am looking to trick the ecu with a square wave signal generator http://www.gibsonteched.com/CK030.html
Do you guys think this will work?

Alright, I have a 1990 ls that has been completely converted from ODB1 to ODB2 and received a '93 b17 swap. All is good except for the guage cluster and the little harness that goes from cluster to main car wiring harness. Throwing code 17(vss).
Can't find a GSR cluster (Very Rare).
That's my situation.
Options:
1)Find used cluster (doubt I can find one)
2)Trick ecu with square wave generator (ghetto)
3)??? any other ideas?

for now get an electronic VSS to fix the ecu, B10 on ecu will go to pickup on VSS, if oyu have an obd1 harness it should plug right in. This will be quick fix for ecu, and you'll have vtec now, you wont have a speedo reading at your cluster. I may have an electronic cluster at hoime in pieces if I find it maybe you can salvage parts from it ... otherwise if you wanna buy a Type R cluster, I have one for sale, jsut need to fit it in there ... I have bezel too.
if you dont have an electronic VSS lemme know I also have abotu 20 of them.

You've got IM Greg
Electric vss was the first thing I was going to do but my redline starts at 6500 on this cluster
so I wanted a cluster with a higher redline.
But you have reminded me of this option and it's probably the best thing at this point. I guess I'll just have to invest in a mechanics manual to do the wiring back to speedo.
The G2 ODB1 tegras don't have connectors in the harness for electircal vss, that's '94+ only but it's no big deal. I believe the wires are power, ground and signal right?
Thanks
Tom
