EK running rough! Need help.
I recently swapped a B20 into my 96 civic coupe. Before it had a B18C1 and it ran fine until cylinder 3 decided it's piston didn't need to be inside the block anymore. Moving on, the B20 has never ran nice, or smooth.
The B20 is clean, inside and out. It came from a good engine supplier, one I've used 6-7 times now. Here is how it behaves:
- The idle is rough, as if it's missing every 2-3 seconds. You can hear the 'pop' 'pop' in the exhaust.
- The idle is not adjustable. I can turn the screw right out, or right in, without ever seeing a change over 50-100rpms.
- Any light throttle feels bogged down, you can feel it miss. If I floor it, it clears up and pulls hard.
- Any rpm under 3700-4000rpm feels bogged down, you can feel it miss. Once it crosses over that it picks right up. In second gear, you can litterally feel a burst of power (We joke and say it's my VTEC lol).
- When it's in those conditions of being bogged, you can feel the car shaking, it feels rough and it's painful to drive, shifting gears is a tough one to make smooth without revving it out.
Here is what I've changed:
- Tune up, all around
- New TB off a known good B16
- New IACV off my old B18C1
- Deleted FITV
- Ran seafoam, and cleaned all the sensors as best as I could (this is from my Toyota experiences, a dirty MAF in a toyota can feel similar to this)
- Converted to OBD1, took like 4-5 hours to get it running after I plugged in a Rywire adapter and stock LS ecu.
- My O2 sensor died, so it was removed, throwing code 41. I have a wideband ready to go in once I fix this annoying studdering issue.
Here is what I've thought
- Poor engine to chassis grounds. Every injector, sensor and engine related sensors pull the ground from the main engine grounds. My B16 swapped civic wagon wouldn't start until I added 3-4 more grounds. It's something I'm gonna do either way to see if there is a change
- Broken sensor wire, or intermittent operation. Not throwing a code for anything other then O2, but it's a possibility
If anyone has ANY suggestion, throw them at me! I want to fix this, or I'm gonna sell this car and buy a Toyota. Please, don't make me buy a Sloyota!
