Default What RPM do you shift at while dragging?

I'm a little curious as to what RPM does everybody shift at while they are at the
drap strip?
I understand that you want to keep the car in VTEC as much as possible so shifting
at a lower point may cause you to drop out of vtec.
But there is also the question of am I gaining any more power by taking it all the way to redline?
I would sure appreciate some hands on experience.

Your not necessarily gaining any power at or above redline but the value of shifting right before your rev limiter is that you will be in VTEC when you shift into the next gear.(thats what I learned when I asked this exact question a while back)
So always shift right before you hit your rev limiter, you will net the best times this way.

Anybody else?
I ran a 14.2 by shifting at redline each time.
My buddy ran the exact same time by shifting at 8000rpm each time.
We both only have I/E, so should this make a difference?

I lost to a buddy´s R with not shifting at redline, he told me he shifted at redline, I tried again and got a better time...

The tach is a bit off when it get´s so high so I wouldnt be too worried if you shift at redline or slightly above it

Well you make peak power in an R at 8000 rpm, but if you shift there you wont be into the powerband as well with an 8400 rpm shift. Ive had better results at the track shifting at redline personally.

Means that no two engines are the same.. Same guy can build the same engine using the same parts, and one can net more power then the other for no obvious reason.

When I shift at redline I get roughly the same et's but a lower trap speed.
For example:
8400 shift 13.59 @ 100.93
8600 shift 13.55 @ 101.10

Make sure you know how much your tach is off by... all the tach's that I know of in ITR is off by 200-300 rpm than indicated.

In otherwords, if you're shifting at 8,000 rpm indicated... you might be shifting at 7,800 rpm.

Know your tach, and you'll get more consistent time and better times in drag, autoX, etc.

Since the R will pull even pass redline i usually shift at about 8700 rpm which according to my tach is right before the rev limiter. On the other hand if the tach is off i could just be shifting at redline.

I'd like to see a stock R try... it would look more like this:

4->3 10500
3->2 9000-9500
2->1 8500-9000

I don't think it will last after the 4-3...if it does, and continue to the 3-2. The piston may shoot out of the hood
