Front Break removal
Hey I'm trying to install some wheel studs. I understand that need to b remove the brake. However this proves to be the issue.Neither the screws in the brake nor the bolt in back of the caliper is coming off. Does anyone have any suggestions in removing these bolts?
Honestly, if you can't figure out how to simply remove two caliper mounting bracket bolts, you probably shouldn't be working on your own car.
Odds are that you don't own or aren't using the correct tools. You should be using a 1/2"-drive ratchet or breaker bar to remove those bolts. 3/8"-drive will work if you're using a 12"+ breaker bar, but I wouldn't recommend using a 3/8" ratchet because you risk breaking the mechanism if the bolts are exceptionally tight and/or rusty.
When reinstalling, remember that a dab of anti-seize compound and a torque wrench are your friends - that way you won't have as much trouble taking it apart next time.
