It's bolted to the evaporator core, and you've gotta' pull the core to do the job.

remove all harness connectors and clips

remove 5 or 6 bolts holding the blower box in

remove blower box

remove 8 or 9 screws holding evap cover in place

remove the 10mm bolt holding the lines to the expansion valve under the hood

pull lines off

You first need to know how you are going to re-service the AC system, I assume that you want to do this part of the job yourself but you will have it professionally recycled. You can have a shop remove what freon is in the system and that freon will remain yours if its not contaminated. YOu should get a credit for that amount on the recharge when you are done with the TXV replacement. You need new Orings and put a touch of AC oil on them, do not overtorque any fittings you put back together, the Orings do most of the work.

You would be best served to have the system made operable, unless the TXV is completely blocked, put some dye in and let it run for some time and sit for some time to try to find out if the evaporator is leaking when you remove it, the shop can take a quick look at it once you pull it out, then they can survey the rest of the system to see if you need any further work done also.

probably because it did the typical crv thing where the compressor explodes and shoots shrapnel everywhere and kills the entire system the technical term is black death
