Oil in Antifreeze
98 Accord LX, 4 cyl VTEC, 5 speed, one owner, always serviced, never driven hard, 131K miles.
I've read about cracked blocks. I'm trying to decide whether to fix or not. Diagnosis is a problem from what I understand.
First step was to drain and flush anti-freeze. Done. Still getting oil in anti-freeze. It's using a quart every 3K. Never used a drop until this year. No problem on the 125K oil change, but had to add a quart to get to the 128K oil change. Same result for the 131K oil change.
Bottom line. I don't want to fix without diagnosis first, i.e., cracked block or possibly a cracked head. But, realistically, can I diagnose either without taking off the head? My fear is sinking $1K into a head repair, only discovering I need do a block... $3K to $4K.
I'll fix a head. But a block... I'd rather trade it in and get a new one. Advice???

Why not start with the head gasket and then worry about a cracked block or head?
Start at the lowest possible problem and work upwards from there.....

Legitimate point. From what I've gathered, it's not possible for oil to enter the coolant on this motor because of a head gasket due to design. True?
I'm told cracked head or block. Honda techs are stumped cuz they never see oil in the coolant.
Basically the techs want to tear down to diagnose. I just don't want to get sucked into a huge $$$ repair on this car.
Might just drive till she stops????

wait for the others here to chime in....
If it does happen to be the head or block you can probably change it fairly cheaply from a junkyard, but that is stilll the worst case scenario I think

hey I'm hoping someone can give some good news. I have a 94' Accord F22b1 5spd, two weeks ago the balance shaft seal blew and thanks to that really good oil pump so did a rod. Bought a used engine from a junkyard and had it installed. Been missfiring since I got it back. So I putted around to break in the engine for a few days and it's still missing. Let it run and began to pull plug wires and #2 cylinder had no change on the motor. So does this mean I have blown head gasket on the compression side??? Also I pulled out plug #2 cranked and small drops of water came out
