What oil do I use?
91 crx si. I live in Texas so it's never really bellow 20f in the winter but we do get to 100f
I don't own the manual but I thought it said 10w-30 but I looked it um on mobil1 and it said 5w-30. What is the correct oil and what oil would you recommend and what filter

10w30 would be fine. I also recall seeing 5w30 recommended though. 5w30 is rated for harsher conditions as in colder areas.
As far as what brand oil an filter, everyone has their own opinion. I just try and stick to one brand of oil. I use Castrol GTX in my vehicles and a fram filter, mostly because of the nice grip they have. In 12 years of owning vehicles neither has ever failed me.

Hey guys...
just to chime in on this subject...
I've been using 5w-30 WalMart Full Synthetic and their 2x oil filter for the past 4 years on 2 EF's; Wago and STD Hatch. I do understand that companies, like WalMart, 'relabel' oils from other manufactures. I have noticed that the oil WalMart uses is consistantly the same. I do not know what company supplies it, but I believe it could be Chevron or maybe Shell.
For the past years, I have had no complaints or problems. The EF STD now has 207k miles and still runs very strong. I have racked up aprox 50k+ miles in total on that oil. I drive in very harsh conditions; heat, heavy traffic, very high speed driving, etc. The oil change duration is 10k +/- miles (.5 burn off - summer heat). the last time I changed the timing belt, I pulled the cam for inspection. Even with the long duration, I have not seen any additonal wear on the surface or on the rockers. It pretty much looks the same from the last time I looked at it. I've been REALLY impressed and will continue to use it on my budget beater.
BTW...I've also used their 10w-30 for the transmissions, no ISSUES to date.

yeah i agree with the earlier posts. unless your running a turbo, there really isnt any reason to dish out the extra cash for royal purple or even synthetic mobil 1. the regular motor oil whether its branded or not work just as well as long as you change it often. when it all comes down to it, oil is oil.
How do you guys check to see if you put in the right amount. I know the dip stick but do you measure out the oil as you put it in or pour and the check the dipstick every once in a while. I bought the big bottle so I can't use each small bottle as a measuring point.
how are you changing the oil? the correct procedures are as follows:
1. open filler
2. drain
3. take off filter
4. drain, then change the filter
5. put a new gasket on the drain bolt and torque
6. pour in recommended amt of oil in the manual
7. turn the car on for 1 minute (this fills the filter)
8. wait a few min
9. check level
10. top off as needed
