Re: Full Oil Filter
mobil 1 filters are the same as fram. i've seen cut-outs of all the major oil filters.

Re: Full Oil Filter
go with a thicker, full synthetic oil for racing. you can still use a WIX filter on synthetic oil.
i personally prefer Castrol, but Valvoline is great, too. Can't go wrong.

Re: Full Oil Filter
Honestly, I use Purolator filters because they're like $3... And my engine runs perfectly with its 160k miles. I've started using Quaker State full synthetic, just because it really isn't much more these days. I'll go 5-6k between these changes, if I autocross I do it more often, usually after each event. When I used non-synthetic, I changed it every 3500-4000. Honestly though, studies have shown that it really doesn't break down until 10k+, but that's just not something I'm into living by with my car that I love.

I go Fram HM + Castrol GTX HM. Can't go wrong. My tune up kit from Honda comes with a stock filter but I just toss that to my friend with a z6. Synthetic is fine for a street setting too and you can go back and forth from conventional just fine but I see no point in synthetic. HM is kind of synthetic but has conventional bases. I like it because HM oil grabs quicker and has additives for a worn engine. I've used Pensoil, Valveline and Castrol. I like Castrol a lot. Also prefer Fram over STP and Percol - whatever filters. Also, 3,000 is an old number. Oils and engines can go much longer. I usually fibb it to about 3500-4500, longer in the winter since it's ****ing cold.

I wouldn't go back and forth from conventional to synthetic. Runs the risk of mixing some of the two. Plus, whats the point? Stick to one.

Re: Full Oil Filter
definately not supposed to go back and forth. it can create leaks.
i just use mobil 1 full syn and a WIX or fram filter depends on where i go. one place here doesn't have WIX so i get fram.
while 3k is an old number we are still working with old cars. just because an 09 can go 4k+ on an oil change, you still have a 95 that should be done every 3k.
never heard of full. i wouldn't bother with it.

Re: Full Oil Filter
yeah you can try it once and go back. that's no big deal. i just wouldn't fluctuate back-and-forth from it. i'm not so sure it would cause a leak, but why not just stick to one?

Re: Full Oil Filter
it's amazing how they get away with charging 3x the price because it's supposed to be a "synthetic" filter.
